How often do you need a preventive gynecological exam
18 July 2026 · 1 min read · Д-р Мария Райкова

There is no one answer for everyone — here is what influences how often you should visit.
One of the most common questions is: “Should I see a gynecologist every year?” The short answer: frequency is individual.
What affects the interval
- age and life stage;
- previous test results;
- current symptoms;
- family or personal history;
- recommendations after a specific visit.
For many women, a yearly check-up is a good guide, but your plan may be more or less frequent.
When not to wait for the “regular” date
Seek care sooner for:
- strong or unusual pain;
- irregular or heavy bleeding;
- unusual discharge or irritation;
- concern after a test result.
Practical tip
At the end of each visit, ask: “When should we meet again?” You get a clear personal guide instead of a generic rule.
